English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is for candidates whose first language is not English and we will assess the three key skills area in Speaking & Listening, Reading, and Writing. The topics and tasks covered are relevant to learners’ needs and are related to everyday work, study, community, and social situations.

The qualifications on offer are from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 with an introduction to various aspects of everyday life in the UK and proficiency in English language to improve jobs and career progression.

There are three different courses which are part of ESOL:

• Speaking and Listening
• • Communication at school, job interviews
• • Make friends and be part of UK community


• Reading
• • Reading letters, newspaper and applying for work
• • Improved vocabulary


• Writing
• • Planning an event, CV and letter writing
• • Applying for work

This programme promotes community integration, social inclusion and contextualised for given occupation and to adequately prepare learners for qualification and work of life. All our courses include citizenship and employment skills.

Achieving this qualification will increase your confidence and motivation, and the skills you need to be integrated into your community, increased confidence in the workplace and or in any further learning (e.g., a vocational qualification).

Looking at improving your language and employability skills?

You will learn how to speak simple English to take part in simple conversations in everyday situations. You will learn how to communicate your needs, ideas, and opinions in topics such as jobs, family, food, transport, entertainment, and health.

There are no formal entry requirements, but we will give you an assessment when you come to register.

What you will need to get started:

• • English is not your first language.
• • Completion of Initial Assessment and Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
• • Have the right to leave and work in the UK
• • Prior ESOL qualification (if any)

What you will study:

• • Speak clearly using formal language in employment
• • Make requests and ask questions to obtain information in familiar and unfamiliar situations
• • Express clearly statements of fact and give short explanations, accounts and descriptions
• • Participate in and respect others during discussions
• • Respond to a range of questions about familiar topics

• • Debating to voice out your views
• • Reading newspaper and having informed discussion
• • Speaking with your child’s school
• • Improving communication with your child
• • Communicating with friends and being part of your London community

You will learn how to write basic letters and emails in English to communicate with families, children’s schools, and employment. You will learn how to structure sentences using punctuation such as commas and full stops, capital letters and question marks. You will learn how to spell common words correctly and to complete simple forms, such as application forms.

What you will need to get started:

• Aged 19 and above
• Unemployed/Refugees/Asylum Seekers
• Low waged
• English is not your first language
• Completion of Initial Assessment and Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
• Have the right to leave and work in the UK
• Prior ESOL qualification (if any)

What you will study:

• Plan and draft a job application letter
• Write complete sentences using correct basic grammar and with correct punctuation
• Correctly spell common words and important words related to work and interests
• Check your work and make any corrections as needed

• Role playing activities
• Completing tasks as individual and as a group
• Creating posters
• Planning events
• Making complaints
• Supporting your child with writing
• Applying for work in the UK including making applications for volunteer work placements
• Writing personal profile for CV
• Participating in community activities

This course is for individuals that have little or some English reading skills. You will learn how to read simple English to help you go about your daily life. You will learn how to read basic forms, use a dictionary, read a letter from your surgery and any letters from your child’s school. You will be able to read application form, job advert, and basic health & safety and transport information.

• • Completion of Initial Assessment and Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
• • Have the right to leave and work in the UK
• • Prior ESOL qualification (if any)

• • Identify and read basic information when shopping
• • Read simple forms
• • Read health and safety signs
• • Read travel timetables
• • Read letters from your child’s school and medical information

Here are some of the activities which you will practise (but not limited to):

• • Identify and read basic information when reading a shopping list
• • Read simple application forms
• • Read job vacancies
• • Read health and safety signs
• • Read UK transport timetables
• • Reading your bills better
• • Read letters from your child’s school and medical information
• • Reading to support your child learning development
• • Reading and participating in community activities
• • Reading your Rights and responsibilities as a resident of the UK
