Overview
With most jobs now needing their employees to use digital tools, we designed our Essential Digital Skills course to help you get the basic IT skills that will help you improve your employability.
You will learn to use digital devices, handle online information, create and edit content and documents, communicate and shop online, and be safe from scams.
Entry Requirements
- • Adults (aged 19 and above)
- • Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
Before starting, you will need to complete
- • An Initial Assessment to assess your skill level
- • An Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) session with us
Progression
By achieving these qualifications, you may be able to progress:
- • To the next level of the programme (e.g. from Entry 2 to Entry 3 or from Entry 3 to Level 1)
- • To another course
- • To employment (dependent on prior qualifications and experience)
- • Or to other vocational career paths, such as apprenticeships or volunteering opportunities (also depending on your qualifications and experience)
At the end of the course, you will have increased your confidence, motivation and the skills you need to be a valuable member within your community, in the workplace and/or in any further learning.

About this course/level:
This level is perfect for those who have little or no previous experience with digital devices and the internet.
In this course, you will learn to:
- • Use devices
- • Navigate the internet
- • Store information
- • Create and edit documents
- • Communicate using email and video
- • Fill online forms
- • Make secure and safe purchases
- • Identify responsible behaviour
- • Keep information and devices secure
Qualifications you will receive upon completion:
- • Entry Level BCS Essential Digital Skills Qualification for Work (EDSQ)
Progression
By achieving these qualifications, you will be able to progress:
- • To the next level of this programme (e.g. from Entry 3 to Level 1)
- • To employment (dependent on prior qualifications and experience)
- • Or to other vocational career paths, such as apprenticeships or volunteering opportunities (also depending on your qualifications and experience)

This course is suitable for those who may have some experience using the internet and/or digital devices, but don’t feel fully confident about using them in the workplace.
In this course, you will learn:
- • Find, store and organise information
- • Resolve common problems
- • Create and edit a range of documents
- • Use communication methods safely
- • Transact online and manage account preferences
- • Identify and minimise payment risks
- • Display responsible and appropriate conduct online
- • Report concerns
Qualifications you will receive upon completion:
- • Level 1 BCS Essential Digital Skills Qualification for Work (EDSQ)
Progression
By achieving these qualifications, you will be able to progress:
- • To another course (such as a Business IT for Office)
