Level 3 Diploma in Early Years(Early years Educator)

About Your Diploma 

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators.

Is this course for me?

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)
  • Course is designed for 19+ adults.

  • Must complete an initial assessment in English, Maths and ICT.

  • Must complete an IAG

  • Must have a Level 2 in Maths, English and Level 1 in ICT.

  • Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as they will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

  • Learners must be able to gain individual experience in real work environments across the age range from 0-5 years

  • For those learners who have no previous experience of working with children and young people, it is recommended that 350 hours be spent in a Real Work Environment.

Work Placement

Learners will be required to attend a work placement.

  • One-to-one blended session 

  • Independent study

  • Assignment preparation 

How long does it take? 

Learners will usually be able to achieve this qualification in 12-18 months.

Course Structure

The qualification prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

You will study a range of different units across the program,  focusing on subject-specific, such as:

  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through the provision of food and nutrition

  • Support healthy lifestyles for children through exercise

  • Support physical care routines for children

  • Promote children’s emotional well-being

  • Understand how to support children who are unwell

  • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children

  • Use legislation relating to the health and safety of children

How you will be assessed

Assessment is through a range of assessment techniques which may include:

  • Direct observations

  • Portfolio of evidence

  • Written assignments 

  • Task set by the awarding organisation

To gain this qualification you will need to

  • Pass all 23 units

  • Complete longitudinal study

  • Show competence in a real work environment

What Next…

Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will gain will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary, or private sectors such as:

 • Assistant in Children’s Centres

• Practitioner in nursery schools

• Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools

• Pre-school worker
