My name is Aziza Ali, I decided that I wanted to work in the childcare sector. I was referred to MI Skills Development Centre by my Job Centre Adviser so that I could gain the necessary qualifications to work in childcare.
I was nervous when I first came to MI Skills Development Centre as I had not been in study for a long time. The staff were very kind and helpful and made me feel at ease from the moment I entered the building. I was given initial assessments to determine which level I should be working towards. I started the level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings in September 2012 which I successfully completed. I then progressed on to the Level 3 Diploma for The Children and Young People’s Workforce in February 2013.
The course involved a placement, so I volunteered at Victory Nursery Brixton as a Nursery assistant volunteer, where I gained valuable experience to help me achieve my qualifications. I cannot thank my tutor Blessing enough for the support and guidance that I received from her. There were times when I didn’t think I would be able to achieve but she kept on supporting and pushing me to achieve. Blessing visited me on my placement to make sure that everything was ok and she would observe my activities to make sure I was meeting the criteria of my qualification. I completed and achieved the qualification in September 2013.
I decided that I wanted to become a child-minder and with Blessing’s help, I researched everything that I needed to become a registered child-minder. Blessing also gave me a reference that I needed. It was a long process, but I am now an Ofsted registered Child-minder and I look after children. I would like to thank Blessing and MI Skills Development Centre for the support to help me get to my long-term goal.
I am so glad that I studied at MI Skills Development Centre as they have helped and supported me throughout my journey especially Blessing. I would definitely recommend MI Skills Development Centre to friends and family.
